Best time to get Norway Tour Deals
Norway is usually seen as far away and cold - beautiful but not good weather. There is no best time to visit, it mostly depends on what you want during your trip. Winters have long dark nights and shorter days. However, they can offer a break where you might be able to see the amazing northern lights (aurora borealis). After this season, the weather gets better and it's a great time to do fun things like skiing, going sledding with dogs, fishing on ice and riding snowmobiles. Easter is when the Sámi people have their fun festivals. In mid-May, the spring in Norway can be so much joy if your visit comes at this short time of good weather, but it's hard to tell. However, many people usually travel during summer time. This is best as it's the season of midnight sun.
1. Walk along Karl Johans Gate to The Royal Palace
Oslo's main road goes through the city from Royal Palace to downtown train station.
Royal Johans Gate is free and open for everyone to walk around all day. There are many cafes, clubs to go into or shops where you can look around. We suggest you watch others around noon. The best place to do this is Studenterlunden Park or one of the many outdoor-seating cafes nearby.
At the top of the street, there is a park around the palace. You will find an equestrian statue made in 1875 for King Charles III John. He was king when they named this street and it honors him with his name on it too!
2. Give A Waffle With Brown Cheese A Try
Go to the United Bakery on Karl Johans Gate and try some traditional Norwegian treats. One of these foods is normal Norweigan brunost, which comes from cooked goat milk. It's a brown cheese made by making whey sweet and caramel-like until it turns into toffee color. They really like to serve it on a thin cardamom-flavored waffle with some berry jam as a side.
3. Go To The National Museum
The National Museum, also known as Nasjonalmuseet is in Oslo near the water close to Nobel Peace Center. It's thought to be the biggest art museum in Nordic area. The museum has both old and new art, modern artwork, architecture designs. They often have ongoing shows and short-term exhibitions. These special events come up quickly.
4. Check Out The Waterfront Promenade
Many different and free sights to see are available along Oslo's waterfront. Lots of people watch them too! Go around this area every evening, at least once or more times a day. I think it's the most interesting part of Oslo city. Definitely, one of the big things to do from here is go on a boat ride into the fjord. These trips visit different islands in the area or explore other areas of the fjord.
5. Visit The Astrup Fearnley Museum's Sculpture Park.
Go to the Astrup Fearnley Museum of modern art at the end of a waterfront walkway. Go for a fee or walk to the green grass outside and look at small, free sculptures. Have fun seeing different statues, for example the one called "Eyes" which I didn't think were eyes at first.
