Best Beaches of Kenya to Explore

1. Diani

Looking like unmistakable coconuts, Diani is a wide beach with long and very white too. The coral reef serves as a fishing ground, shelters the fish from storms, and makes the beach safe for swimming, rafting, or snorkeling, and for other adventure sports of your choice. The nearby bars, restaurants, and cafes provide quick bites and half-liquid entre`s. When the sun sets, the Kenyan coast has not yet taken a break from its nightlife here.

In Diani, it's possible to mix and match a surf and safari trip at the nearby Shimba Hills National Reserve, as well as the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, which is less than an hour's drive from here. It also functions as a birthplace for adventure sports alongside an enviable status as a kitesurfing, skydiving, and deep-sea fishing spot.

The safari gets varying experiences right from the backpacker hostels, modest B&Bs, and beachside boutique hotels like Afrochic to the private villas such as Alfajiri which are top-end.

2. Chale Island

There lies a secluded island off the mainland in Kenya, and all you can see is less than the length of a soccer field, but it takes you to a place that you dream of.

On the edge of reefs and thick with its green carpet outside, the island has one significant beach as well as several smaller ones where your footprints are more likely to be the only ones on the sand. The only thing you wouldn't recognize is the fact that this island, Chale, is a nesting place of many endangered sea turtles and is sure to amaze the eyes of your family, spouse, and friends around.

Sands at Chale Island Hotel winds in the main beach on the windward inner side of the island. These are the primary place's activities but the resort staff can set up excursions to Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park for snorkeling or scuba diving, to the mangroves for kayaking, to the Caribbean Sea for catamaran sailing, deep-sea fishing, Diani Beach, or any other place along the coast.

3. Gazi

Situated between Diani and Saba Saba Road standing between the Kenyan Coast and the Tanzanian border, this secluded sandy creek is known only to the passionate Kenyan beach lovers who have it in their DNA. Locations on Chale Island are protected from any big waves, and the beach is backed by traditional old coconut groves which provide cool shade to anyone who would overheat in the strong sun.

The shores of the beach are inhabited by mangroves at the northern end, which can be reached by the Gazi Women Mangrove Boardwalk, a coastal ecology and ecotourism project, in which female bird-loving locals have taken part. The ladies are the ones, who take charge of the tour site and give interpretive tours of the mangroves. A short walk away from Gazi village is the Treehouse Hotel, also known as the Cove, on the other shore of the mangrove swamps.

4. Kikambala

Rather than the rest of Kenya’s mid-coast beaches, this idyllic half-mile to Malindi looks different. A few years ago, people used to come here more for a famous farm of sisal (agave) than boating, diving or fishing.

On the other hand, several old mega-resorts tend now to the close of the local Caribbean style. Firstly, Vipingo Ridge is a compound with eccentric Indian Ocean perspectives equipped with the country's top-ranked golf course. This being a brand new feature, daily Safarilink air service is connecting Kikambala's direct route to Nairobi and Diani Beach.

If, however, you look past the overwhelming ambition around the beach, you will still be admired by a wealth of empty stretches and neat packages along the Kikambala Southern strip, and also up north, near Kilifi Creek.

5. Lamu Island

The Lamu Old Town is a real-life gallery of the result of interaction between the Arabs and the Africans on the coast of Eastern Africa which has been going on for a hundred years.

The eastern windward coast of Shela beach is a long and better stretched free developing shore. As there is no coral reef barrier here, Sur La Mer is one of the few surfing spots near the Kenyan coast where you can experience clean and powerful surf waves.

Spend the night at the Kizingo resort, stroll by the waterside at the weather thereafter explore the Petley’s Inn Roof top bar, or settle down in Peponi’s amazing Terrace.
